Monster Hugs

We've all heard of bear hugs,
but did you know that monster hugs are absolutely the best beast?

As far as monsters go, this chap is pretty cool, not too scarey
and just waiting for a hug.

It's been a few months since I participated in a challenge
however when I saw the theme on The Sisterhood of Snarky Stampers
was "M is for Monster", I knew he would be perfect.
If you want to join in the fun, click on the above link.

I came across the background which I had pre-done some time ago,
while I was playing around with distress inks on watercolour paper.
Then it was a matter of colouring my monster in tones that would stand out
from the background.

I used various Prismacolor pencils, blending here and there
and adding highlights where needed.

The bowtie spots and the buttons on his shirt are Gelly Glaze pens
which when dry, give a slightly raised finish.
His glasses were done with Glossy Accents, as were the sentiment.

I found a piece of dark purple card to use as a mat,
which was adhered to a folded white card.

Hello ...

I enjoy playing along with on-line swaps and challenges
and this month, one of the swaps is
"Hello"
where we are making a card and co-ordinating tag.

I decided to go a little bit quirky using a couple of the fun characters from
PaperAtsy 'elenazinski ZA03'.

I stamped both characters on white card using 'jet black' Archival Ink
and coloured them with various prismacolor pencils.
I then again stamped them directly onto the backgrounds,
before adhering the fussy cut images directly over the top.
This way, any strands of hair or thin lines are not lost.

Both backgrounds were made using Distress Oxides
in 'wilted violet', 'worn lipstick' and 'fossilized amber' blended together.
The card background also used a brick stencil spritzed with water for an interesting effect.

It won't be to everyones taste,
but I hope my swap partner likes my quirky "Hello" card and tag.

My own little world

We awoke this morning to blue sky and sunshine,
quite a welcome change after March has been so wet.

So with a clear forecast, we decided as a family,
to play one last game of Putt Putt.
Sadly after 47 years, our local Putt Putt is closing down at the end of April
as developers move in and build even more highrise.
There is SO much building going on in Sydney with highrises
popping up everywhere - so much change happening!

Anyhow, the five of us plus one delightful girlfriend,
had a lovely afternoon hitting golfballs around the three courses.

Which of course, means no crafting happened today,
so here is something that was made recently but didn't get blogged sooner.

Isn't he a cute little character?
Love the quote too!

I stamped him directly onto white card, coloured him with Prismacolor pencils,
with a piece of washi tape for him to stand on.

I edged around the white card and adhered it to a white card base.

The fragrance of flowers

Included in the March birthdays are both my aunts
(who happen to be sisters
who have birthdays a week apart.

I decided my usual quirky stamps may not be so appropriate for 80+ year olds,
so while I was crafting with my friends last Friday,
I borrowed some flowers to use instead.

The stamps are all from Paper Artsy
which are fabulous to interchange to suit the mood.

They are both coloured with Prismacolor pencils,
layered on a purple mat which in turn is adhered to white card.

An insert was added to both cards,
partly because I think inserts finish off a card nicely,
and partly to add a little more weight to the card.

I hope both my aunts have a very enjoyable birthday
and like their cards too!

Listen to your heart

On Friday morning I went off on a crafty play-date with a couple of friends.
Last minute packing consisted of some white cardstock,
black inkpad and some stamps, suitable for some upcoming birthdays,
and my favourite colour pencils.

I started with this carefree spirit,
colouring her with various Prismacolor pencils.
The sentiment was stamped in 'jet black' Archival Ink.

This panel was adhered to some crinkly purple paper
which in turn was adhered to folded white card.

A matching 'happy birthday' sentiment was stamped on the inside.

A simple but, I think, pretty card.

In your dreams!

Continuing on from yesterday's playtime,
is another background page that was made at different stages a while ago
but has been waiting for the perfect something to be added.

From memory, the background was done with a combination of Dylusions sprays
and the middle piece is one layer of a paper towel mop-up.
The tree and the army of ants are Dylusions stamps and were done around
the same time as the background.
The mushroom stamp was added quite a while later
(my apologies, but I don't remember where this stamp is from as it was borrowed)
and coloured added.

Todays playtime was stamping, colouring, cutting and glueing these two girls to the background.

Both girls are coloured with Inktense pencils blending various colours together
.

My Own Little World

Today, since it has been quite hot again,
I decided I'd stay inside in the air-conditioning and play.
Not for any reason except that I had new stamps sitting, patiently waiting on my desk
and today seemed like a good time to give them an inking.

This chappie is from Zinski Art (Set #03) and is available from Paper Artsy.
If you live in Australia, I bought mine from Time to Create.

The background is part of a double page spread in my Dylusions journal which was made a couple of years ago.  The left page was decorated at the time the background was done, however the right page was left as I never quite knew what to put on it.

Today I knew what to do with it!

I wonder what this chappie's name might be?
Hmmm ...... anyhoo, I coloured him with a combination of Inktense pencils
and Silks Acrylic Glaze and fussy cut him.  I also stamped him directly on the journal page to pick up the extra lines that are outside the main image.  The cut image was glued directly over the top.  From the same set I also stamped the small border for him to stand on.
A few stars, also from the set, were scattered over the background.

The quote is also a new stamp I recently acquired from Visible Image.

Thanks for looking and if you feel so inclined, please leave a message!

Half a Century

I've just finished making another ATC this morning, based on the theme at Wicked Wednesday this week - "Use Numbers".
Coincidently, it also works with the Stampotique Designers Challenge which is "Milestone Celebrations".

Starting with the background, I blended 'mermaid lagoon', 'dusty concord' and 'peeled paint' Distress Inks together.  Using my handmade circle stencil, I created a 'bokeh' effect with Stampin' Up! 'Whisper White' ink.  Once that was dry, I stamped "50" onto three of the bubbles with black ink.

The steampunk snail is from PaperArtsy Eclectica EM04 and was stamped, fussy cut and coloured using Distress Markers in various colours.

This is the first outing for this rather distinguished snail - hope you like him.

This is my entry to this week's challenges which you can find here:

I'll be back again soon, so be sure to look in!

Happy Crafting!
