Congratulations #2

Well, here I am back again ..... this time with an
Engagement card
to go with the present from yesterday's blog post.

I was a little uncertain about the card, so headed down to Alice in Paperland for some inspiration.

After looking at different colours I settled on a mint green, black mat and blue card, all in shimmery cardstock.  I then chose the glittery specialty paper for the top half, finished off with a thin ribbon along the join.  The double heart charm was glued into place as it kept twisting.  The words are die cut and were included in a pack of papers and embellishments.

A closer look at the glittery specialty paper.

My son seemed to be happy with both the card and the gift,
[especially as mum helped with both LOL!]

Once again, CONGRATULATIONS to the happy couple!

Congratulations!

Last Thursday, my BFF and I spent a lovely day wandering around the
Craft & Quilt Show at Glebe Island.

At one of the stalls we came across a pretty framed picture of a dandylion - actually probably not quite a dandylion but something similar - and we both remarked about how it would make a lovely gift for an engagement or wedding.

My son had been invited to an engagement party on the weekend and as he was yet to find a gift, I sent him a photo of the picture and asked if he thought it would be suitable.

What do you think?

[the finished gift]

On Friday morning I headed off to Ikea for a suitable frame and after uumming & ahhhing, settled on this black framed shadowbox.  I'm really chuffed with how it all came together.

This came as a kit which included  the white 'dandylion' laser cut, a packet of coloured hearts in various sizes and a black A4 background.  Working from the back, each heart is glued into position so when you view it from the front, each coloured heart has a white border.

[this is a close up of the one displayed at the craft show]

Silly me didn't take a close up of the one I put together, as I had already taken one as reference when I was at the craft show [with permission from the stallholder].  If you look hard though, you will see that my colours go in the opposite direction.  I'm sure it doesn't matter as they both look equally as pretty as each other.

From hearing about the party and seeing photos of the night,
the excited couple looked to be having a very happy celebration.
CONGRATULATIONS!!!

I'll be back again tomorrow to show you the engagement card - in the meantime ......

Vroom!

It's 5.30pm and I really should be doing something about dinner, but I'm tired!
After doing 2 loads of washing this morning, my attention was drawn to the tree that has been scratching on the bathroom window every time the wind blows.
Grrrr .... I HAD to do something about it.
Out came the saw and the long handled thingys, and down came most of the tree.  I left the main trunk as it is actually helping to hold the side fence up.  Next was the tedious bit, chopping it up and putting it in the green recycling bin ready for the garbage collection tomorrow morning.

Then I realised that I'm off to a craft show tomorrow and I didn't have any $$$ in my purse -eeeek!  How can I go to a craft show without money?
So off to the shops I went, coming home with some bread and milk as well to keep the hungry human mice going until the next shop.

Anyhow, back to Vroom, here is an ATC that I made for the challenge at
Snarky Stampers.

Isn't she fun?  Wind in her hair, putting along on her scooter while the rest of the city are in their concrete jungle.

'Born to Ride' is a Deep Red stamp.

Imagine

I decided to play along with some monthly challenges, so last week I got to work in my art journal, getting inky and messy along the way.

There were a few stages to these pages, so stay with me and I'll attempt to do quick step by step photos to show how I got to the finished pages.

Months ago I tried blopping a tea bag onto my pages and once they had finally dried out (note to self, squeeze out the tea bags a bit more) I was left with random beige areas.  So last week I opened my journal to these pages and started adding colour, firstly with turquoise paint through a mini bricks stencil and a feather stencil.

Once that had dried, I applied Distress Crackle Paint [clear rock candy] and waited for it to crackle. I then wiped Silks [emperor's gold and pretty peridot] over the crackles for added effect.

With another stencil, I added random flowers using Viva Modellier Creme [mother of pearl].

Finally I added random butterflies and circles using Viva Facetten-Lack - Croco Crackling Colour [metallic silber] and with bubble wrap added some more background.

A few bits of washi tape were added under the angel and bird, both of which were coloured using Gelly Roll pens, so they were grounded.  They were then fussy cut and popped onto dimensionals.

The chipboard letters were coated in Viva Ferro [graphite] and once dried, a light touch of Silks [bolivian blue] was used to highlight them.

The Dapper Mr Z

This weekend was perfect crafting weather - cold & wet!
I also realised that I need to have a few things made by next weekend, however I'm off to a craft show on Thursday with my BFF and I'm away on the weekend with 'the girls'.  All this means is that everything has to be finished by Wednesday this week.
Plus, it's mine turn to host a swap in July ....... eeeeeeeekkkk!!!

Anyhow, moving right along ......
here is the card I made for a friend of #1 son for his birthday.

The background is done with Ken Oliver 'Color Burst' powder paints in yellow ochre, orange & alizarin crimson.  Just a quick spritz with water and let it dry.  Every background will be different depending on the amount of powder and how much water is added.

As the background is quite busy, the image is stamped in 'jet black' Archival Ink, fussy cut and glued directly onto the card.  A black mat was added to give it more definition before attaching to a white card.

Inky Puss

I have been playing around with Ken Oliver 'Color Burst' powder paints recently, just seeing how the different colours react with each other.  With this card I lay a stencil over white card stock, sprinkled some powder and then spritzed it.  As I lifted the stencil, some of the paint took on the shape while the colour seeped under other parts, however this was what I was left with once it had dried.

At 'Simply Less is More' this week, the challenge is
One Layer Card - Splatters

I wanted a solid image stamp for this card, so went with this delightful pussy from Katzelkraft.  The words are from a magazine freebie that I came across in my stash recently when I was looking for something else.

As this is one layer, I felt it needed something extra, so I scored a border around the edges.

Rainbow Dreaming

Gosh, it's been a long time .......

My usual crafting space [i.e. the dining table] has been covered in all sorts of other things lately and as I haven't really got anywhere else to play,  my craft has unfortunately, taken a bit of a back seat.  However, the end is in sight and with a bit of rearranging, I should soon have my own crafting space with much better natural light then what is available at the dining table.

This afternoon I was determined to make something [kitchen benches aren't just for food],
so I had a look at the various challenges this week and chose
Stampotique - All Creatures Great & Small.

A couple of days ago I was playing around with Ken Oliver 'Color Burst' paints, not for any particular reason, more just to experiment with colour.  So when I went looking for cardstock on which to stamp 'Fruit Bat', one of the smaller pieces of card was the perfect size.  I stamped him with 'jet black' Archival ink and fussy cut around the image.

Next I went looking for a background, finally settling on some designer paper from Bo Bunny 'Believe' which is a rainbow of colour with washed looking printing in various places - perfect for a quick background without having to do anything!  'Fruit Bat' was stamped directly onto the background paper which then puts the speech bubble in place,

A piece of washi tape was added for him to stand on and then the first image was glued into place.  Another small piece of washi tape was added for balance.  The bananas were coloured with a gold pen to help make them stand out on the yellow background.

I edged around the paper with 'black soot' Distress Ink before attaching it to black cardstock.  A length of glittery, fuzzy yarny stuff [that's technical jargon for "I don't know what it's called"]  finishes off the tag.
